Zombe, Kitui County – June 5, 2025 — Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering tangible, grassroots-level development under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), during a high-level visit to Zombe, Kitui East.
Speaking alongside Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and other national and local leaders, PS Mueke announced major infrastructural and social development milestones set to benefit residents of Kitui County. Among the key highlights, 18,000 households across the county are being connected to the national electricity grid — a move expected to boost small businesses, improve livelihoods, and support local innovation.
Road infrastructure also featured prominently in Mueke’s address. The government is set to commence works on the Zombe–Kyuluni Road, a vital link for the local economy. Additionally, KSh 800 million has been allocated for compensation to pave the way for upgrades along the Kibwezi–Mutomo–Kitui Road, which will enhance accessibility and trade across the region.
The leaders were in Zombe for a Women and Youth Empowerment Program, where various initiatives targeting job creation, financial inclusion, and social support were launched. Mueke emphasized that such programs are central to the government’s strategy of ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind in the national development journey.
“This is the real spirit of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda — reaching the people, addressing their real needs, and transforming lives from the grassroots,” PS Mueke said.
The event was marked by high community turnout, reflecting strong local support for the ongoing development agenda.
