In a concerted push for better infrastructure to drive economic growth, the Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Jonathan Mueke, accompanied by the Principal Secretary for Devolution, Teresia Mbaika, paid a courtesy call to the Principal Secretary for Roads, Eng. Joseph Mbugua, at his office today.
The high-level meeting focused on advocating for the completion of key road projects vital to both the livestock sector and industrial development. Chief among the requests was the accelerated completion of the Kibwezi-Kitui-Kabati-Migwani-Mbondoni road, a critical artery connecting Kitui County to other regions and facilitating the movement of livestock and agricultural produce to markets.
PS Mueke also emphasized the importance of upgrading the road leading to the Kenanie Leather Industrial Park in Machakos County. Highlighting the park’s potential to become a game-changer for Kenya’s leather industry, Mueke stressed that better road access would unlock its full economic potential, create jobs, and improve livelihoods for communities in the region.
“We recognize that infrastructure is the backbone of development. The roads we’re advocating for are not just about transport; they’re about connecting people to opportunities, farmers to markets, and industries to the global economy,” said PS Mueke.
On his part, PS Mbugua assured the two PSs of his commitment to infrastructure development, adding that these projects align with the broader national agenda of spurring economic growth through targeted investments.
PS Teresia Mbaika echoed Mueke’s sentiments, noting that good roads would not only improve trade but also enhance service delivery, especially in remote areas.
The Kibwezi-Kitui-Kabati-Migwani-Mbondoni road has long been a key demand by residents of Kitui County, who see it as a lifeline for their agricultural and livestock-based economy. Its completion would transform the region into a hub for trade and industry.
The meeting emphasized the government’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration in addressing infrastructural challenges, ensuring that no region is left behind in the pursuit of economic transformation.
